Let's Watch the Star Tattoo Craze Officially Die

About 4 years ago, I decided I wanted to get my first tattoo. I went through a couple of bad ideas (including getting Ben Harper's signature target on my wrist) before settling on these adorable little stars I saw on actress (and present-day slore) Sienna Miller.

But being the punk that I am, I decided against getting a tattoo. I was sure that I'd be completely unhappy one day when my cute little 5-point stars would morph into a fleeting sci-fi lookin' Haley's Comet on my sagging middle-aged skin. Then Rihanna, Chris Brown and every other random celebrity started getting them and they became totally played out.

Or so I thought.

Bless her.

When this eeeee-diot appeared on my computer screen I felt the birth of a new kind of stupid and the official death of the star tattoo craze. It's done. That bird has cooked.

Allegedly, this little lady went to the tattoo parlor to get 3 tasteful stars on the side of her face. But the trusting girl drifted peacefully to sleep to the lullaby of the artist's needle scarring human flesh. She "woke up" hours later with 56 stars on her face.

Bull.

Why so skeptical? Cause this dude was the tattoo artist:

Something tells me he might have a bit of a flare for the dramatic. You don't go to this guy if you want your sorority's letters on your ankle, Tweety Bird on your shoulder, or three tiny stars on your face.

UPDATE: She's finally admitted that she lied because she was scared that her dad was going to be mad at her. I can't imagine why he would be. It's not like it's gonna impact her job prospects, wedding photos, CHILDREN'S wedding photos... Imagining herself at 80 with what will be shooting stars by then should be punishment enough.

Firsts: Media Tripping

Last month, I was lucky enough to go on a media trip (my first) to yummy Destin, Florida. Media trips are an excellent way for a journalist (which I apparently am) to travel to beautiful locations, learn about travel writing, and network with some highly decorated folks in the biz (which is TOTALLY what everybody calls it, the biz).

I am working on an article about Destin and recently started digging through my photos from the trip. I experienced so many firsts there: first media trip, first time to the beach, first time on a boat, first time I've eaten fish that was alive about 45 minutes before it was on my plate, first time I've schmoozed with large and varied group of travel writers. I must have TONS of great photographs, right!?!

Wrong.

On a catamaran cruise. In a hat.

In the jacuzzi.

On the catamaran. No hat.

Listening to my I-Pod on the beach.

On my balcony with friends. And by "with friends" I mean alone.

As it turns out, I was that loser taking self-portraits. Dangit!

Back on the Blog

After a little more than a month off, I've decided to get back to regularly blogging. I had to take some much needed time off to not find a job.

Anyhoo, the plan is to post at least 2 to 3 blogs each week. One weekly blog will include my Random Question of the Week. While one might easily assume that I know EVERYTHING, there are still a few bits of useless information that keep me up at night: Why ARE some eggs brown and some white? Can you breastfeed with breast implants? Why can't I bend my pinky on my right hand without also bending my ring finger? I hope to find the answers to these probing questions over the next few weeks. And don't you worry your pretty little head... I'll share them with you.

And if you haven't taken the time to read between the lines of my wrinkled brow, I turned 30 in April. Instead of crying in the closet with a plastic spoon and a pint of Rocky Road (been there, done that), I've decided to make this a year of firsts. I have and will do lots of things for the first time this year and --you guessed it-- you'll find out about it here.

So be cool, my babies!! Virtual excitement beyond your wildest dreams is just around the corner. Stay tuned.
